Price Guide

What a Copenhagen Canal Tour Costs

Dock, online, Card and Netto prices, and what each step up buys you.

A 1-hour canal tour in Copenhagen costs DKK 80 (about $12) on the Netto boats from Nyhavn, DKK 169 to 199 at Stromma’s own docks, and about $24 per person for Stromma’s Canal Cruise with Guide on GetYourGuide. That online ticket is the one we recommend for most first visits. It costs about the same as buying at the dock, it is rated 4.6 from 12,933 reviews, and it comes with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

How much does a canal tour cost at the dock?

Stromma, which runs the big classic canal boats, charges DKK 199 (about 30 US dollars) from Ved Stranden 26 and DKK 169 (about $25) from Nyhavn 3 in 2026. It also sells a DKK 135 early-bird ticket for Ved Stranden on its own site, which works out at about $20. Adult fares apply from age 16, children aged 6 to 15 pay about half, and under-6s ride free.

The Netto boats (Netto-Bådene) are the cheapest guided option. Adults pay DKK 80 and children aged 3 to 14 pay DKK 40. The tour lasts about 50 minutes, with a live guide in Danish, English and German. Boats leave Nyhavn every 40 minutes from 10:00 to 17:20, and the main season runs from March to October. You pay at the ticket office with cash or card, and you cannot book ahead. Netto is not sold on its own on GetYourGuide, only inside a hop-on hop-off bus combo, and it is not covered by the Copenhagen Card.

Is the GetYourGuide ticket more expensive than the dock?

No. The Canal Cruise with Guide boards at Ved Stranden 26, so the fair comparison is Stromma’s DKK 199 walk-up fare there. At about $24 on the dates we checked in October 2026, the online ticket is a few dollars cheaper than the walk-up price and a few dollars dearer than the early bird. What you get for booking ahead is a fixed departure and free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

It is the same 1-hour tour either way. The route passes Christiansborg, the Playhouse, the Opera House, the Little Mermaid and Amalienborg, and the boat finishes at Ved Stranden or Nyhavn. Our full breakdown of the tour covers the boats and the guiding.

What each step up buys

From $31 to $42 you move from a Stromma boat seating 150 or more to a small electric one. The Electric Canal Tour with live guide & hygge carries nine guests at most, the Exclusive Guided Boat Tour has 12 seats, and on the Guided Boat Tour Through Beautiful Canals guests may take turns at the wheel.

At $37 the Classic Canal Tour & The Harbour adds 45 minutes and the run up to Nordhavn; our route guide shows what that extra leg passes. At $57 the Sip & Sail Canal Cruise pours beer, cider, wine and soft drinks but has no guide. Check the cancellation policy shown at checkout before you book it, and see our canal tour with drinks page for the other options.

For groups, per-boat pricing changes the maths. The Electric Boat Rental was $90 per boat for one hour, about $11 each for eight people, but nobody guides you (GoBoat rules and zones). The Private Guided Boat Tour with City Highlights at $376 per boat comes to about $63 each for six (private boat options).

Does the Copenhagen Card make the canal tour cheaper?

Only if you use the rest of it. The 24-hour Copenhagen Card Discover costs DKK 589 on the card’s own site and $89 on GetYourGuide. It includes Stromma’s classic tour from Ved Stranden 26, the harbour buses and public transport, but you cannot book the boat online with it. The canal tour alone covers about a third of the card’s price. Our Copenhagen Card canal tour page works through the break-even.

What are the cheapest ways onto the water?

The Netto boats at DKK 80 are the cheapest guided tour. Cheaper still is the harbour bus: routes 991 and 992 take an ordinary DKK 24 two-zone ticket (about $3.60), though they have no commentary and stay out of the narrow canals. GreenKayak lends kayaks for free if you collect litter, from 1 May. Our harbour bus vs canal tour page compares them, and the Nyhavn departures guide shows where each boat leaves.
