How a GoBoat Rental Works

A short lesson at Islands Brygge 10, then the harbour is yours for 1, 2 or 3 hours.

  1. Book a boat

About $90 per boat for one hour on the dates we checked, for up to 8 people. Two and three-hour rentals are also sold.

  2. Check in at Islands Brygge 10

Bring a passport or ID card and a credit card. After a brief safety chat, the crew shows you how to drive the boat.

  3. Choose your own route

Navigate with the paper map from your briefing or the digital map on your phone; a QR code on the table adds city facts and a quiz.

  4. Picnic on the water

Bring your own food or buy snacks. Life vests and blankets are included, and dogs are welcome on board.

GoBoat Guide

Renting a GoBoat in Copenhagen

Price per boat, the rules, where you can and cannot go, and when a guided boat is the better buy.

GoBoat rents self-drive electric boats for up to eight people from Islands Brygge 10, and you need no licence. Its Electric Boat Rental was about $90 per boat for one hour on GetYourGuide on the date we checked, rated 4.7 from 371 reviews. We recommend it for groups of four to eight who want a picnic on the water at their own pace. If you want commentary, or there are only one or two of you, GoBoat’s captain-led Electric Canal Tour with live guide & hygge at about $31 per person is the better buy.

How much does a GoBoat cost?

The price is per boat, not per person. On GetYourGuide the 1-hour rental was $90, with 2-hour and 3-hour options too. GoBoat’s own site starts at DKK 549 per boat (about $82), with discounts for longer rentals, mornings and the off-season. The GetYourGuide booking includes life vests and blankets and has free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Group size decides whether it is a bargain. Here is one hour of self-drive against the guided GoBoat at the prices we saw in October 2026.

GroupSelf-drive, 1 hour (per boat)Per personCaptain-led tour (per person $31)
2 people$90$45$62 in total
4 people$90about $23$124 in total
6 people$90$15$186 in total
8 people$90about $11$248 in total

One cost to know about: you are liable for damage up to DKK 4,000.

What are the GoBoat rules?

The skipper must be 18 or older and must stay sober. Up to eight people fit in a boat, and life jackets come in sizes down to 5 kg. You may bring your own food. Each passenger may have up to two units of alcohol, and only beer, wine and ready-to-drink cans or bottles are allowed; spirits are confiscated. Portable speakers are not allowed on the rental.

Nobody may swim from the boat or jump off it. Dogs ride free, at your own risk, as there are no dog life jackets. Bring a passport or ID card and a credit card to check in. The boats move at 3 to 4 knots, so an hour covers less water than you might expect.

Where can you go in a GoBoat?

You choose your own route inside the zones on GoBoat’s map. On the official 2024 edition, Nyhavn is a no-entry zone, and the harbour north of Ofelia Plads and the Playhouse is prohibited, which puts the Little Mermaid out of reach. Some canals are one-way, some canal entrances have traffic lights, and quiet zones and no-stopping zones are marked. The southern limit is around Sluseholmen and Teglholmen. Check the map you are given on the day, as the zones can change.

Within those limits you can explore the canals and the inner harbour at your own pace. Our route guide shows what the guided boats pass, including the low bridges in Christianshavns Kanal, and our Nyhavn guide lists the tours that do sail into Nyhavn.

When is GoBoat open?

GoBoat opens every day from 11:00 until sunset, and the listing notes that hours can change. Sunset sets the length of your day: around 21:57 at the June solstice, about 17:54 in late October and 15:37 in late December. GoBoat also offers a heated boat for colder weather on its own site. Our best time guide covers light and weather month by month.

Self-drive or a guided GoBoat?

Self-drive suits a group that wants to talk among themselves, eat and steer. Nobody tells you what you are looking at, though the QR code on the table adds city facts and a quiz.

The Electric Canal Tour with live guide & hygge uses the same quiet electric boats from Islands Brygge 10 with a captain who guides in English and Danish. It takes nine guests at most, lasts an hour including a 5-minute safety briefing, and is rated 4.7 from 1,591 reviews. Its listing names Nyhavn’s facades, Amalienborg, the Opera House, the fire-damaged Børsen and Christianshavn. Drinks are sold on arrival. GoBoat’s Harbor Tour is also listed among Copenhagen Card attractions; see our Copenhagen Card page.

If you want a turn at the wheel without being in charge, the Guided Boat Tour Through Beautiful Canals lets guests steer under the guide’s supervision, with soft drinks, coffee and chips included, for about $42 per person. For a boat with a captain to yourselves, see our private boat tour guide, and for every option by cost, the price guide.

"A great trip around the canals and GoBoat. It was an experience well worth the time (2 hours) and money."

"Go Boat electric boat rental around Copenhagen was great. Well organised and prepared via email in advance, check-in was quick and easy. The introduction to the vessel was straight forward, we were provided with life jackets and there were clear instructions about where to go and what to see. The hour was perfect for the basic tour of the harbour and the boat is easy to operate. It was a really relaxing and quiet way to see some of the city. We were able to bring our dog along, who slept under the snack table whilst we sailed along. A great activity for the whole family, we can absolutely recommend it."

"Amazing weather, amazing views, relaxed vibe :) just the other boats were faster than us and our steering fell off. But everything else went really smoothly and friendly. Would recommend :D"
