How the Private Boat Tour Works

Pick a length, meet captain Oni, and shape the trip around your group.

  1. Choose 1, 3 or 4 hours

About $376 per boat for one hour on the dates we checked, about $647 for three hours and $903 for four. Up to 6 people per booking.

  2. Meet your captain-guide

Cuban captain Oni sails and hosts the trip, with stories about the city as you go. The boat model may vary with availability.

  3. Your music, your drinks

Connect your playlist to the Bluetooth speaker and buy drinks from the cooler on board; bringing your own drinks is not allowed.

  4. Reffen, the Mermaid and Trekroner

The 3-hour option adds a Reffen street-food stop and the Little Mermaid; the 4-hour option adds Trekroner Fort. Rain means a full refund.

Private Boats

Hiring a Private Boat in Copenhagen

The options, what you can do on board and when a small shared boat is the better deal.

For a boat of your own in Copenhagen, we recommend the Private Guided Boat Tour with City Highlights from Seaduced Experience. It was $376 per boat for one hour on the dates we checked, for up to six people, so about $63 each when six of you share it. You get captain-guide Oni, a Bluetooth speaker for your own music and a full refund if it rains, and it is rated 4.8 from 84 reviews. For two people, a small shared boat costs a fraction of that.

What do the 1, 3 and 4-hour options include?

All three are priced per boat, with a maximum of six people per booking.

OptionPrice per boatEach, for 6Route
City Highlights, 1 hour$376about $63Islands Brygge, the Black Diamond, Slotsholmen with Christiansborg and the Stock Exchange, Nyhavn, the Playhouse, Ofelia Beach, the Opera House, Christiania, Paper Island and Christianshavn with Our Saviour’s Church
City, Reffen and the Little Mermaid, 3 hoursabout $647about $108The 1-hour route, plus a stop at Reffen’s street-food market and the Little Mermaid
Full experience, 4 hoursabout $903about $151All of the above, plus Trekroner Fort out at the harbour entrance

The 1-hour route does not pass the Little Mermaid. If she matters to you, book three hours, or see our route guide for the shared tours that pass her. Reffen’s street food runs an autumn season until 1 November and closes from November to February, so the 3-hour stop depends on the time of year.

What is allowed on board?

Music is your call: connect your playlist to the onboard Bluetooth speaker. Drinks are sold from the cooler on board, from beer and wine to prosecco, champagne and soda, and you may not bring your own. The boat can stop for a swim, so pack swimwear and a towel, though jumping from the boat is not allowed. Smoking is not allowed either.

The listing invites you to ask about extras such as a beach-bar stop, so raise them when you book. Trips are filmed for safety, and the operator will keep you out of its social media clips if you ask. The tour is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility impairments.

Private boat or a small shared boat?

For six people, a shared small boat is still cheaper. Here is what each group would pay at the prices we saw in October 2026, with one hour on the private and self-drive boats.

TourBasis2 people4 people6 people
Private Guided Boat Tour, 1 hourper boat, up to 6$376$376$376
Exclusive Guided Boat Tourper person, 12 seats$84$168$252
Electric Canal Tour with live guide & hyggeper person, max 9$62$124$186
Electric Boat Rental (you drive)per boat, up to 8$90$90$90

The private boat costs your group of six about $124 more in total than six seats on the Exclusive Guided Boat Tour. That buys a boat without strangers, your own music, drinks on board and a route you can bend. For a couple, the gap is far wider, and the shared electric boats are the sensible choice.

Which small shared boats come closest?

The Exclusive Guided Boat Tour is Stromma’s 12-seat electric boat, live-guided in English and Danish, with heated seats and blankets in winter. It is rated 4.8 from 2,496 reviews. The Electric Canal Tour with live guide & hygge takes nine guests at most with a GoBoat captain from Islands Brygge 10.

Hey Captain’s Old Canals and Hidden Gems Social Boat Tour seats up to 12 and is built around conversation with the captain, at $102 per person. Its GetYourGuide season has ended for 2026, with the next date on 19 March 2027.

What about a boat with no captain?

GoBoat’s self-drive Electric Boat Rental is private in the sense that only your group is aboard, at about $90 per boat for an hour for up to eight. You drive, there is no guide, and Nyhavn is off limits. You may bring your own food and a little beer or wine, which the private captained tour does not allow. Our GoBoat guide has the rules, our canal tour with drinks page compares drinking rules by operator, and the price guide lists every boat by cost.

"Oni, our guide, was very kind and super friendly. He took us to some really beautiful places, tailored the tour to our preferences, and gave us several great recommendations for the rest of our trip. He also showed us around Reffen. Finally, at the end of the tour, he dropped us off near our hotel. And of course, the boat itself is really nice. We highly recommend this experience."
