About This Experience

The Canal Cruise with Guide is Stromma's classic one-hour loop and the simplest way to see Copenhagen from the water. You board at Ved Stranden 26 by Gammel Strand, a live guide talks in Danish and English, and the boat finishes back at Ved Stranden or at Nyhavn. On the dates we checked in October 2026 it cost $24 per person, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

The route leaves past Christiansborg Palace and Slotsholmen, runs out to the Playhouse and the Opera House, crosses towards Reffen and reaches the Little Mermaid at Langelinie. On the way back you pass Amalienborg Palace, the Royal Library and the former Stock Exchange, Børsen, which is a building site under scaffolding after the fire of April 2024.

It suits first-time visitors who want the whole city in one hour, and families, since Stromma charges children aged 6 to 15 about half the adult fare at the dock. Stromma sails all year. In the cold months the boats are covered and heated, and from 1 October to 23 December departures run from about 10:00 to 16:50.

These are big sightseeing boats, with more than 150 seats each, so expect a full boat in summer and little room to move. Some departures use an audio guide in place of a live one. Prams are not allowed, non-folding wheelchairs cannot be taken on board, and everyone stays seated under the low bridges.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the Canal Cruise with Guide depart from?

It boards at Ved Stranden 26, by Gammel Strand, not at Nyhavn. The boat may finish back at Ved Stranden or at Nyhavn.

How much does it cost and what is included?

It cost $24 per person on the dates we checked in October 2026. That covers the one-hour cruise, a live guide in Danish and English on most departures, and a poncho if it rains.

Is it cheaper to buy the ticket at the dock?

Not really. Stromma charges DKK 199 at Ved Stranden and DKK 169 at Nyhavn, or DKK 135 as an early-bird online fare, so the $24 ticket is close to the dock price and adds free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Does the tour pass the Little Mermaid?

Yes. The route runs north to Langelinie, where the boat passes the Little Mermaid before turning back via Amalienborg.

Does it run in winter?

Yes, Stromma sails all year. From October to March the boats are covered and heated, and from 1 October to 23 December the first departure is at about 10:00 and the last at about 16:50.

Is the tour included in the Copenhagen Card?

The Copenhagen Card Discover covers Stromma's classic canal tour only from Ved Stranden 26, and card holders reserve a slot at the Ved Stranden box office on the day. Without the card, this $24 ticket is the way to book ahead.
